The recent announcement of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2 has fans buzzing.
On their official social media pages All Elite Wrestling confirmed that the inter-promotional PPV will take place on Sunday, June 25th, and will be held at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON.
The event will see the biggest stars from both companies going head-to-head in special encounters and dream match-ups.
One possible dream match fans are hoping to see at the show is a rematch of the Wrestle Kingdom 17 classic between Kenny Omega vs. Will Opseay.
At NJPW’s Tokyo Dome show, the two participated in a 6.25-star rated spectacular, which saw Omega defeat Ospreay for the IWGP United States Championship.
Since that match, the two are yet to cross paths, but according to Dave Meltzer on the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been discussions about a second highly-anticipated bout.
“We also know that at one point there was hope Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay II would be at Forbidden Door. This was never official past we were told before the Tokyo Dome that they were working with the idea of two matches, WrestleKingdom and Forbidden Door. And we don’t know the situation with Ospreay’s injury. But it will be interesting what kind of a number this show can do. Toronto is traditionally one of the best wrestling markets in the world.”
Kenny Omega Missed The First AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door
The first pay-per-view saw several first-time-ever encounters such as Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Will Ospreay vs. Orange Cassidy and Adam Cole vs. Adam Hangman Page vs. Kazichuka Okada vs. Jay White.
However, one of the biggest stars most synonymous with NJPW, Omega was not present at the show. At the time, Omega was off television due to a wide assortment of injuries to his back, shoulder, knees and neck.
