Major Forbidden Door Match In Doubt

A major match seemingly in the works for Forbidden Door could be in serious jeopardy with one of the competitors struggling with injury.

Bryan Danielson was last seen in an AEW ring at Double or Nothing on May 29th. At the event he teamed with Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz to take on the Jericho Appreciation Society in a brutal Anarchy in the Arena match. Danielson’s team was on the losing end of the blood-soaked battle after he was distracted by Kingston attempting to set Chris Jericho on fire.

However, the rivalry between the two sides isn’t over yet, as Eddie Kingston challenged the JAS to a Blood and Guts match on the June 29th episode of Dynamite.

It then came to light that The American Dragon had been forced to miss a scheduled meet and greet due to an undisclosed injury, the nature of which has still not been revealed.

With the best of AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling set to clash soon at Forbidden Door, Bryan Danielson has clearly been on the mind of top New Japan star Zack Sabre Jr.

At NJPW’s Dominion event, ZSJ and his Suzuki-gun teammates El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru unsuccessfully challenged Bullet Club’s House of Torture for the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship.

However, speaking backstage after the match, the multi-time Tag Team Champion was undeterred by the defeat as he set his sights on Forbidden Door, challenging Bryan Danielson to take a break from playing golf at the “Blackpool Country Club” to take him on.

“Have you got time to take out of your busy schedule golfing with the Blackpool Country Club to find out who the best wrestler in the world is?”

Now Dave Meltzer speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio has given the latest indication that the dream match might have to be postponed given the injury to Danielson:

“He was not cleared on Wednesday of last week. […] He’s either going to be on the show this coming Wednesday or I would go and say it’s unlikely they’ll have the match (@ Forbidden Door vs ZSJ)”

All eyes will be on AEW Dynamite this Wednesday to see if Danielson returns and is able to at least attempt to kick the head in of Zack Sabre Jr come Forbidden Door.
