Major Brock Lesnar Match Not Happening “Any Time Soon”

Brock Lesnar stands over Cody Rhodes on WWE Raw

On April 11th it was reported that the idea of a huge clash between Brock Lesnar and Gunther had been “floated” for this summer.

Gunther has openly talked about his desire to face Lesnar, with the Intercontinental Champion commenting that a match “has to happen.” Even Lesnar has admitted that he would be open to the match.

Hype around a potential bout reached a peak following the Royal Rumble when Lesnar and Gunther shared an intense staredown during the Rumble match. Although it was noted that the match was being held off, the reports on April 11th gave new hope to fans that the match could be coming soon.

Despite this, it has now been reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there are “no plans” for the match to happen any time soon.

“Right now there are no plans for Lesnar vs. Gunther at SummerSlam or Lesnar vs. Gunther any time soon. Of course that can change because it is a viable match But if Lesnar is scheduled on SummerSlam there is already a direction that isn’t Gunther.”

Brock Lesnar Heading For Showdown With Cody Rhodes

A week after being destroyed by Lesnar, Cody Rhodes came to the ring to address the beatdown and his WWE future. The American Nightmare admitted that he had fallen short at WrestleMania 39, but had to keep working and moving forwards. Rhodes went on to reveal that while he’s scared of Brock Lesnar, that doesn’t mean he won’t fight him.

The Royal Rumble winner ended the promo by challenging The Beast to a match at Backlash.
