At NXT Battleground, Carmelo Hayes once again overcame Bron Breakker to retain the NXT Championship.
The pair met in an incredibly physical main event, which saw Breakker almost break the champion in two as he countered a springboard into the kind of Spear Goldberg would have been proud of.
However, it was Hayes who emerged victorious, and then attention turned to what’s next. Fast forward two days and fans have their answer.
After being challenged by Noam Dar earlier in the show, Hayes saw off the Heritage Cup Champion in the main event, but his celebration was cut short by Baron Corbin. The former United States Champion delivered a stunning beatdown to stand tall as the show went off the air.
Earlier in the episode, Mustafa Ali also made a surprise appearance, entering through the crowd during a match between Tyler Bate & Wes Lee and The Dyad. Ali joined commentary and then raised the hands of Bate and Lee after their victory.
Both Corbin and Ali are “free agents” following the WWE Draft after going unselected.
Blair Davenport Revealed As NXT Mystery Attacker
For a number of months, a mystery assailant has been taking out members of the women’s roster and has put the likes of Nikkita Lyons, Wendy Choo, Roxanne Perez, and most recently Sol Ruca on the shelf.
On the show, Dani Palmer came to the ring demanding answers on behalf of her friend Sol Ruca. As a video was played highlighting the attacks, Palmer was jumped by the mysterious figure who was revealed to be British star Blair Davenport.
