Mexican promotion AAA has announced a series of drive-in shows set to run throughout October.
The lucha libre powerhouse, which has ties to All Elite Wrestling, has been ostensibly dormant, bar the brief Lucha Fighter tournament which played out behind closed doors.
Fans have been barred from attending shows since the coronavirus pandemic claimed a foothold in Mexico, now one of the world’s worst affected nations, earlier in the year.
But taking to Twitter yesterday, company president Marisela Peña announced the company’s return via the drive-in concept, entitled AutoLuchas.

Drive-in theatres have seen something of a renaissance over the course of the pandemic, with comedians, musicians and films using the medium as a way of safely performing to a live audience.
As per AAA, fans will remain in their cars throughout the event in a bid to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The four shows will take place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez grand prix circuit, a race track which had previously hosted the likes of Formula One racing.
No talent has been announced for the shows as of yet but it appears unlikely that any of the promotion’s US based champions, including Kenny Omega (Mega Champion), Taya Valkyrie (Reina de Reinas Champion) and the Lucha Brothers (Tag Team Champions), will be involved.
AAA held a press conference for AutoLuchas in which they confirmed that Pentagon Jr, Laredo Kid and Pagano would all be involved. Psycho Clown, Chessman and Lady Shani were all involved in the conference, likely signalling their involvement also.
