Roman Reigns has been so dominant at the top of WWE for the past two years that even his most bitter of rivals have been forced to admit that his is “killing it.”
Following the breakup of the Shield back in 2014, Roman Reigns became trapped in a strange character no-mans land. Although he was quickly positioned as WWE’s top babyface, he remained essentially the same character that he always had. This led to some awkward promos and moments for the man himself, while fans rejected his success.
However that changed when Reigns returned to WWE after a short break in the summer of 2020. The star emerged with a new edgier character with a new look and turned heel for the first time. Since then Reigns has held the Universal Championship for more than 830 days, and has been the Undisputed Champion since WrestleMania 38.
Roman Reigns Is “Killing It” – Drew McIntyre
During this run Reigns has locked horns with Drew McIntyre on more than one occasion. The Tribal Chief famously defeated the Scottish star at Clash At The Castle while they most recently clashed inside WarGames at Survivor Series. During an appearance on the Faction 919 podcast, McIntyre briefly stepped outside of his on-screen character to praise reigns as someone who is amazing to work with.
“His former self was amazing to work with. He’s such a talented athlete in the ring,” McIntyre said of Reigns. “Personality-wise, he still quite hadn’t found who he was, because he was playing a role. He wasn’t himself. And he did very well playing a role. He was given the biggest opportunities of all time for a reason, because they knew this is the guy. Now that he finally has a chance to be his true self, he’s absolutely killing it, [and] has been for two years.”
WWE have announced that Roman Reigns will be back on Friday Night SmackDown on December 16th. On the December 9th episode, Jey Uso suggested that Sami Zayn get a haircut and sharpen himself up for the arrival of the Tribal Chief in a week’s time. Jey added another layer of intrigue commenting that it looks like it could be a big night for Zayn after all he has given to The Bloodline in recent weeks.
