After more than 20 years, it has been confirmed that WWE Tribute To The Troops shows will not take place in 2024 and it is unknown if the show will return.
Beginning in 2003 with the stars from the promotion travelling to Iraq and Afghanistan to put on a show for the armed forces fighting overseas, Tribute To The Troops was hosted domestically beginning in 2010 and remained in the United States ever since. In 2023, the December 8th episode of SmackDown was presented as a special edition of the show as opposed to a standalone Tribute To The Troops event. The show generally aired around Christmas each year but will not be a part of the company’s holiday line-up this year.
With just over a week left to go in 2024, the annual special has not been filmed and there has been no promotion that the show will air. Speaking about the special on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that it would not be taking place in 2024 and remained uncertain about its long-term future:
“No more. It’s done. Obviously, the year being up, I think in the last month people [were] kind of asking when they’re taping it. It just was not being taped. They had too many other things going on. I don’t know if it’s done for good, but this is the first year that they haven’t done anything with that. I think that in 2019 I believe they didn’t do a television show, but they still did events and they still taped stuff. But this year, nothing. It was a Vince McMahon thing, and it’s not Vince’s company anymore. It’s not something that you’re going to advertise [that] we’re not doing this anymore, but it quietly went away this year.”
WWE Show Confirmed To Be Ending
With the current era in full swing with Triple H in charge of creative and the company under Endeavor ownership, many changes have been made in the past year and look set to continue. Along with Raw moving to Netflix in a matter of days and SmackDown being confirmed as a 3 hour show in 2025, one WWE show is set to end soon with the replacement already set.
In a new update, the WWE show may return but in a more traditional format.
