Location Of Original WCW Ring Discovered

WCW Nitro Girls

WCW held its last show on the 26th of March 2001, almost 20 years to the day later an old WCW ring has popped up in the unlikeliest place.

In March 2001 with WCW nearing its end, Vince McMahon and the WWE bought the company from AOL/TimeWarner. By buying his competition, McMahon ended the wrestling war that had ignited in the mid-nineties. Famously for 83 weeks straight WCW Monday Nitro defeated WWE’s Raw in the ratings.

After the demise of World Championship Wrestling, many of the behind-the-scenes employees and stars were snapped up by WWE. Soon after, WWE began the notorious ‘invasion’ storyline that saw a team of WCW and ECW competitors try to destroy WWE. That story ended at the 2001 Survivor Series in a ‘winner take all’ ten-man tag team match. Team WWE, represented by The Rock, Big Show, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, and Kane defeated an Alliance team. The Alliance was represented by Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, and Shane McMahon.

But what of the equipment WCW owned? Over the years, pieces of old merchandise have appeared online, many in the hands of private collectors.

The WrestleMap Twitter account has unearthed the location of one of WCW’s wrestling rings. Twenty years later, it is still in action on the island of Trinidad. New Evolution Wrestling based on the Caribbean island use the ring to this day.

The tweet read:

“Twenty years ago today, WWE purchased WCW. Questions remain about where WCW’s rings, ring accessories and sets wound up. One of the ring aprons wound up on the island of Trinidad and is still in use today by one of the promotions based on the island, New Evolution Wrestling”

Upon sharing the whereabouts of the ring, another post on social media shows the whereabouts of one of WCW’s old ring skirts. This made it to slightly less sunny climes, turning up in Middlesbrough in the north-east of England. According to the post the ring skirt that hides all the things usually found under a wrestling ring – tables, sledgehammers, Hornswoggle – is used by First Class Wrestling in the Teesside town.
