Bray Wyatt-fs8

Happy Birthday Bray Wyatt!

Bray Wyatt at Royal Rumble

Happy Early Birthday to ‘The Eater of Worlds’ Bray Wyatt who will celebrate his 36th birthday tomorrow on the 23rd of May.

The former Fiend has not been seen since his pre-WrestleMania feud with LA Knight and was not drafted to RAW or SmackDown as part of the 2023 WWE Draft.

Reports are that Wyatt’s absence is not injury/medical related but also that he is not on his way out of the company as some had begun to speculate following his scrapped WrestleMania clash with Bobby Lashley.

Drew McIntyre

Could Drew McIntyre Return During Tonight's RAW?

Mojo Rawley Drew McIntyre WWE Raw

Drew McIntyre continues to make headlines as his WWE contract is up in the air, however, a new update from Dave Meltzer is promising for fans of ‘The Scottish Warrior’.

During tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, a mystery partner is set to team with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to take on Imperium – and although previous reports have suggested that this will be Shinsuke Nakamura, Dave Meltzer’s has claimed that it COULD be Drew McIntyre’s grand return.

Speaking on this morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer would state:

“I’ve seen some people speculate that the mystery partner will be Drew McIntyre…It would make sense.

Right now, the last I heard, which was just a couple of days ago, was that he’s just ready for, you know, just waiting for him and creative to agree on the situation that, you know, the injury situation’s pretty much, I mean, I can’t say 100% that it’s cleared up today but I was told that the basic gist is that he’s ready to come back.

Now. I wasn’t told he’s ready to come back Monday. I’ve just been told that he’s ready to come back. Close, you know, soon enough.” [h/t Haus of Wrestling.]

John Cena

John Cena Recalls Harsh Conversations With Austin Theory

John Cena & Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.

John Cena has revealed that he told Austin Theory he didn’t believe in him backstage before hammering the point home on WWE Raw.

Speaking in a new interview with Sam Roberts on Notsam Wrestling, Cena compared Theory with Roman Reigns, explaining that he’ll need to fail before he can truly succeed.

The 16-time World Champion said Theory was involved in every step of the creative process of their feud, before revealing that everything he said on-screen, he said to the rising star backstage. Cena said that he emphasised the importance of capitalising on the “equity” he has as a WWE legend.

In a different interview, John Cena opened up about his own career, and what he feels he has left to give back to wrestling. Interestingly, the star admitted that his body can no longer cope with life in the ring like he could when he was younger, commenting that what fans saw at WrestleMania, is all he has left.

Goldust

AEW Star Dustin Rhodes Celebrates 15 Years Of Sobriety

Dustin Rhodes

AEW Superstar Dustin Rhodes has been speaking after reaching 15 years of sobriety.

The Texas born Superstar would feature in five seperate stints as Goldust, sandwiched between returns to WCW, two runs with TNA and a host of independent appearances. During his time with WWE he would claim the WWE Intercontinental Championship on 3 occasions and enjoyed multiple runs as WWE Tag Team Champion including twice with brother Cody Rhodes

After requesting his release in 2019 he would go on to face his brother at AEW All Or Nothing in a stunning bout given 5 stars by journalist Dave Meltzer.

And whilst Rhodes continues to compete in AEW to this day, his biggest achievement has arguably come outside of the ring.

Rhodes took to Twitter on 19th May to celebrate 15 years of sobriety in an emotional tweet:

“Today is a day that I am most proud of.

Today is 15 yrs clean and sober from drugs and alcohol. It was a difficult journey for me, but when we work our programs diligently, magic starts to happen.

I thank God for this second chance and new lease on life. I choose not to turn around and take a walk with the devil. I am clean from him, 1 day at a time.”

Congratulations to Dustin on surpassing this incredible milestone!

If you are struggling with alcohol abuse then help is available online, including via the NHS website.

AEW

AEW Facing Early Struggles With Collision Ticket Sales - "It's A Really Tough Situation"

Tony Khan & CM Punk

While the saga surrounding CM Punk has dominated the headlines, AEW is seemingly facing other big problem with Collision.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer also addressed the news that AEW has reportedly sent feelers out to Daily’s Place if Punk’s return doesn’t happen, making a show at the United Center in Chicago almost impossible.

With regard to ticket sales for the three dates currently available in Hamilton, Toronto, and Newark, Meltzer explained that things are off to a slow start.

Looking ahead to the show in Hamilton, Meltzer added that things are even worse with only 600 tickets sold to date.

You can read Meltzer’s full statement and ticket sales breakdown, here.

Hulk Hogan

Eric Bischoff Claims CM Punk "Is Worse" Than Hulk Hogan

Dennis Rodman and Hulk Hogan

Back in 2021, following his AEW debut, CM Punk would fire shots at Hulk Hogan, claiming that the WWE Hall of Famer was a “piece of sh*t” and that he wanted to be nothing like him.

Those comments did not sit right with Eric Bischoff who has recently blasted CM Punk’s antics in AEW, referencing back to Punk’s criticism of Hogan’s conduct in WWE/WCW and even going as far as to claim Punk is now “worse” than Hogan when it comes to his attitude and actions behind-the-scenes.

Speaking on his Strictly Business podcast, Bischoff would take aim at Punk’s attitude and previous comments as well as why AEW should not be bringing Ace Steel back to the company following his actions in the All Out brawl back in 2022.

Just because he’s a confidant of CM Punk’s? Why is he allowed to jeopardize the network premiere of a brand-new show? Are you f—ing kidding me? People say I’m just being negative when I refer to the dysfunction within the infrastructure and the business side of AEW, but this [is a good example].

All these hardcore wrestling fans and Punk himself is so anti-Hogan because [they think] he’s selfish and whatnot. Punk’s worse!” [h/t WrestlingInc]

Liv Morgan

Liv Morgan Could Need Surgery Following Recent Injury

Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez

On the May 15th episode of WWE Raw, it was announced that Liv Morgan had suffered an undisclosed injury and wouldn’t be teaming with Raquel Rodriguez to defend their Women’s Tag team Titles against Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville as planned.

Now details surrounding Morgan’s injury have been revealed and it doesn’t look good for fans of the former WWE Women’s Champion.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that Morgan has suffered a shoulder injury and could even require surgery.

“Liv Morgan has what is believed to be a shoulder injury that may need surgery, and so they announce on SmackDown that she and Raquel were being stripped of the tag team titles, and they’re going to do a four way coming up on Raw and the winners of that this week.”

You can read more about Morgan’s injury and possible surgery, here.

Dakota Kai

Dakota Kai Injured During SmackDown Women's Tag Team Championship Match

Dakota Kai

Liv Morgan’s injury has forced WWE to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships however it appears Morgan is not the only star who was injured during the May 12th edition of SmackDown.

During the same Tag Team Title match that saw Morgan pick up her injury, Damage CTRL member Dakota Kai would also sustain an injury that has seen the former NXT Superstar ‘shelfed’.

Fightful Select has confirmed that Dakota Kai has been ‘shelfed’ with an undisclosed injury following the match, leaving WWE down two of their most established tag teams and causing chaos in the Women’s division alongside the confusion caused by Ronda Rousey’s impeding departure.

Details of Kai’s injury status are currently unknown but Inside The Ropes will update you as soon as more information becomes available.

Booker T Believes Recent WWE Booking May Confirm Drew McIntyre's Departure

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre’s WWE contract dispute appears to be one of the companies hottest stories this summer with constant updates on why ‘The Scottish Warrior’ is refusing to re-sign with the company as his contract expiry looms.

Initially it had been reported that McIntyre was unhappy with both the finances of his contract and his recent booking, however recent reports have revealed it is solely down to ‘creative disputes’ and not a financial matter.

WWE Hall of Famer and NXT Commentator Booker T has now weighed in on McIntyre’s looming WWE departure, stating that ‘The Scottish Warriors’ lack of involvement in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament would appear to confirm his departure from the company.

Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T commented on the speculation around McIntyre and how likely it is that he’ll leave the company when his contract expires.

“I heard Drew McIntyre’s contract is coming up, and he may be leaving to move on to other things. I don’t know. I don’t know how true that is. Him not being in this tournament kind of says a little bit of something, right? We’ll see how that plays out.”

Community Questions - "Which Premier League Footballer Would Make The Best WWE Superstar"

Adama Traore HD Image

Earlier today we took to the ‘get involved’ section of the site and our social media to ask you, “which Premier League footballer would make the best WWE Superstar” and through this afternoon we are going to be sharing some of our favourite responses.

Harkirat Virdi has written in, using the ‘Get Involved’ feature, to suggest that Wolves winger and renowned BEAST Adama Traore is the correct answer due his pace, power and overall look.

“Adama Traore is definitely the next member of The New Day material.”

Great pick! Adama Traore has everything he needs to make it in the WWE, including an obsession for baby oil! The man could oil up and be the next Hulk Hogan, dropping leg drops and selling supplements to children all around the globe!

As Rob Holding once said, Traore is very much “build like a brick sh*thouse” so he should definitely do well in Vince McMahon’s WWE.

Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Jarrett Recalls Owen Hart Ribbing Him During Their WWE Run

Owen Hart

Owen Hart’s legacy in WWE is one of an incredible athlete, performer and friend, with the Canadian known for his incredible sense of humour and love of a good ‘ribbing’ during his time in the business.

Now, AEW Superstar and WWE Hall of Famer, Jeff Jarrett has revealed Owen Hart’s favourite ‘rib’ to play on him during the duo’s time together in the WWE.

Speaking on his ‘My World’ podcast, Jarrett would reveal Hart’s favourite rib to play on him during their time teaming in the WWE.

“Owen would jump up on me, hold onto my neck and go ‘Hold me! Hold me! Hold me!’ as a rib, and he’s like, ‘alright, let’s go up the ramp,’” Jarrett recalled, “You’d try to put him down but he kinda just holds onto you… he was heavy!”

Jarrett would then discuss his time teaming with Hart, calling it one of the most enjoyable times in his career.

“Teaming with Owen was always a blast… it was stuff that you’d go through the curtain and go, ‘We get paid to do this?’” [h/t WrestlingInc]

Kurt Angle

"He Never Improved" - Kurt Angle Reveals Why Luther Reigns Failed In WWE

Kurt Angle wearing a wig at WWE Hall of Fame induction

WWE may be dominated by Roman Reigns in 2023 but it wasn’t too long ago that another Reigns was trying to make a splash in the home of sports entertainment.

Luther Reigns debuted for the WWE back in April of 2004 becoming, then SmackDown General Manager, Kurt Angle’s assistant.

With a towering frame and mammoth build, many in WWE had Reigns pegged for big things, however they never came to fruition and the former WCW talent was released from the company in late 2005.

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was asked about Luther Reigns on a recent edition of the Kurt Angle Show. The former WWE Champion stated that while Reigns’ promo ability was great, the lack of desire to improve in the ring was what held him back.

“He needed a lot more work. He was really green in the ring. As far as microphone skills, he was incredible, had a great look, everything going for him.”

Community Questions - "Which Premier League Footballer Would Make The Best WWE Superstar"

Sven Botman Newcastle United HD Image

Earlier today we took to the ‘get involved’ section of the site and our social media to ask you, “which Premier League footballer would make the best WWE Superstar” and through this afternoon we are going to be sharing some of our favourite responses.

James May (not the Top Gear/Grand Tour host…or is it?!) has written with his pick, none other than Premier League TOTS nominee and Newcastle United Superstar Sven Botman.

Writing in via our ‘Get Involved’ feature, James would suggest that Botman has the no-nonsense look, GUNTHER like qualities and is “hard as nails” making him the perfect man for the job!

“It has to be Sven Botman – hard as nails, he has a serious, no nonsense look and Walter-like qualities. He looks like he could take Brock Lesnar too!”

Great pick from James here! Botman is a massive 6’4 and has shown real leadership qualities this season at Newcastle.

He could be the leader of the new, new Nexus taking over from Barrett who was also a European giant with a great look and leadership qualities. The group, made up of Premier League debutants such as William Saliba, Enzo Fernandes (half the Chelsea squad to be fair) and Erling Haaland could debut at a WWE Saudi Arabia PPV (for obvious reasons) and look to make an impact by taking out The Bloodline!

WWE

Community Write In - "Should John Cena End Roman Reigns Undefeated Streak"

Charlotte Flair makes her entrance on SmackDown.

Ryan ‘RB’ Bradley has written in this afternoon to ask about WWE’s modernisation of records and what this could mean for Roman Reigns.

Bradley has asked if John Cena should be the man to end Roman Reigns’ undefeated streak, noting that although WWE has a new desire to modernise records this doesn’t just have to benefit Roman Reigns and if timed well Cena could not only dethrone Reigns but become WWE’s 17 time World Champion at the same time.

“From a storyline perspective (and generally speaking) should Cena be the chosen one to end Reigns undisputed streak while simultaneously breaking Flair’s 16 world championships?

It’s been mentioned that WWE wants to modernise records – this doesn’t have to just be regarding Roman.

I feel that giving this major honour to Cena will help modernise records in a major way with someone who has been the biggest star of the last 15 years. They won’t be able to break this record with anyone else anytime soon bar Randy.”

I think that you are absolutely on the money Ryan when it comes to WWE wanting to modernise records. GUNTHER is going to break Honky Tony Man’s historic Intercontinental Championship record this year and Roman is 100% going to surpass a thousand days as WWE Champion.

I guess the logic is that this will enhance the value of these stars to the casual audience and make the product feel fresh and not ‘stuck in the past’.

Cena could very much be the answer and I think it’s a real shame that neither he or Orton have that record given their importance to the business.

However, I think that WWE will instead be looking to break Ric’s record with someone very close to his heart…Charlotte.

WWE are very good at blurring the gender lines and bringing them into focus as and when suits and with Charlotte already a 14 time World Champion I could see WWE having her capture a few more titles over the next year or so before breaking the record at WrestleMania and being the modern made of that record.

Not that I think it’s the best thing to do.

Community Questions - "Which Premier League Footballer Would Make The Best WWE Superstar"

Earling Haaland Dortmund HD Image

Earlier today we took to the ‘get involved’ section of the site and our social media to ask you, “which Premier League footballer would make the best WWE Superstar” and through this afternoon we are going to be sharing some of our favourite responses.

Erik has written, using the ‘get involved’ feature, and has suggested than Erling Haaland is the man for the job!

Erik has suggested that Haaland, dubbed ‘The Viking Raider’ is the correct call as he has the height, build and strength required for the job, suggesting that he should team with his fellow nord Drew McIntyre and run through the tag team division!

“It’s gotta be Haaland! The Viking Raider! Guy is large, intimidating, a showman! Put him with McIntyre and let ‘em run through the tag division.”

Great pick! First of all because, as an Arsenal fan, I am all for anything that takes this insane goal scorer out of Man City’s team for next season but also because Haaland has all the attributes to succeed in the WWE, just don’t tell The Undertaker that he likes to play Minecraft in the locker room! The Deadman isn’t a fan of that!

Let’s just hope if it is Haaland that makes the jump, WWE don’t change his name to ‘The Viking Experience’ a week after his debut!

New Japan

NJPW Crown Inaugural STRONG Women's Champion

Willow Nightengale as the NJPW STRONG Women's Champion

Back to some wrestling news (we will be back to the community questions shortly, don’t worry!) and NJPW has crowned their inaugural STRONG Women’s Champion during last night’s Resurgence event.

NJPW returned stateside for the second time in 2023 for Resurgence at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. The card featured four women battling it out in a one-night tournament to become the first-ever STRONG Women’s Champion.

In the first round, former IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone took on and defeated Stephanie Vaquer while ROH and AEW star Willow Nightingale beat Momo Kohgo to also advance to the finals thus setting up Nightingale vs Mone in the main event to capture the brand new title.

The two women met in the final match of the night watched by Mone’s fellow Mandalorian co-stars Katee Sackhoff who plays Bo-Katan and Emily Swallow who plays the Armourer in the Star Wars spin-off. But their support wasn’t enough to see Mone emerge victorious as Nightingale claimed the win and the new title.

During the match Mone would suffer a serious injury which may see ‘The CEO’ miss AEW & NJPW’s huge Forbidden Door PPV this June! You can read more about this, here.

Community Questions - "Which Premier League Footballer Would Make The Best WWE Superstar"

Harry Kane Mike Collins HD IMage

Earlier today we took to the ‘get involved’ section of the site and our social media to ask you, “which Premier League footballer would make the best WWE Superstar” and through this afternoon we are going to be sharing some of our favourite responses.

Writing in via the ‘Get Involved’ feature, Alex Waygood has suggested that Harry Kane, the man who prompted this very discussion, should team with his bizarre WWE lookalike Mike Collins.

Alex goes on to suggested that duo would team but sticking to his Tottenham legacy, Kane and Collins would fail to win any championships only for the England striker to eventually turn heel in a manner reminiscent of The Rockers Barber Shop window.

Harry Kane to tag with Mike Collins. They wouldn’t win anything so Harry would eventually turn on Mike and put his head through Chick-King shop window!”

Another fantastic pick, could this lead to Kane losing an ‘I Quit’ match against Mike only for the England international to make a shock return years later and confront his forgotten brother The Undertaker at Bad Blood 1997… you get it…because Kane.

Diego Costa HD Premier League Image

Earlier today we took to the ‘get involved’ section of the site and our social media to ask you, “which Premier League footballer would make the best WWE Superstar” and through this afternoon we are going to be sharing some of our favourite responses.

Writing in on Twitter, Danny McMullan has suggested the dangerous duo of renowned nut job and Premier League winner Diego Costa managed by Premier League icon and current Roma manager Jose Mourinho.

“Give me Diego Costa and bring in Jose Mourinho as his manager” –@TheDannHammer

This is a great pick, the duo has real Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman vibes with Mourinho acting as Costa’s mouthpiece and business man as he tears through the WWE roster.

Mourinho could use his role in the 2023 Europa League final to start a feud with WWE’s Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER who’s Eintracht Frankfurt team won the competition in 2022.

A true battle for the ages!

John McGinn HD Image

Earlier today we took to the ‘get involved’ section of the site and our social media to ask you, “which Premier League footballer would make the best WWE Superstar” and through this afternoon we are going to be sharing some of our favourite responses.

Aden Lynch has thrown Aston Villa skipper and Scotland’s hero John McGinn into the gauntlet.

Writing in Aden has said that McGinn could look to utilise his bodacious booty to attack his opponents and even bring glory back to the iconic Stinkface finishing move!

“John Mcginn of Aston Villa! Look at his ass and the way he uses it to block opponents he’s an absolute Scottish warrior! Finishing move would obviously  be the stink face!”

What a great mick from Aden! McGinn, or Meatball as he is endearingly known, has the stocky barrel build needed to do well in a battle royal, could we be looking at the 2024 Royal Rumble winner in the Villa man?

Up first we have Matt Browne who has suggested that Aston Villa Goalkeeper and World Cup winner Emi Martinez could make the cut.

This is a great pick, he has the charisma and his penalty spot antics could enable him to play the ultimate heel to a plucky underdog babyface.

Steve Austin

'Stone Cold' Steve Austin Heaps Praise On CM Punk - "I Love The Guy"

Danhausen CM Punk

When it comes to WWE dream matches, CM Punk vs Steve Austin is one of the biggest ‘what ifs’ in wrestling history.

Both renowned for their incredible mic skills and take no sh*t attitudes, Punk and Austin and two WWE Superstars cut from the same cloth and it turns out, that has gained Punk a significant amount of love and respect from ‘The Texas Rattlesnake.’

Talking with Alfred Konuwa of Forbes, Austin would open up on his relationship with ‘The Second City Saint’ revealing that the two keep in touch and he was saddened to hear about Punk’s recent injury struggles.

“Man, I just sent Punk a message last night. I didn’t know he had torn his triceps. I haven’t been following anything. I don’t know what’s going on with that. Me and Phil trade messages every here and there. We rarely talk, probably once or twice a year. I love the guy, and I don’t even know if I mentored him because Punk’s probably a lot smarter than I am.

Great promo guy, great worker, he’s got his own thing going and we’re just friends.

So I think I remember there’s a picture of myself and him from Chicago, my favorite town to work in, my favorite building. And I guess he had come down to where we were all hanging out. Maybe he looked up to me back in the day, but I don’t know if I so much mentored him because I think he paid his own dues. He learned it the way he did and he got over on his own merits.

The fact that maybe I could have been somewhat of an influence would be flattering if that were the case. But he’s made his own career.”

Austin would then go on to respond to a question relating to Punk’s ongoing issues in AEW, stating that he isn’t one to comment as he doesn’t pay much attention to the current product and therefore has no clue what’s going on.

But I don’t even know what’s going on with the current situation or what they’re doing because right now I rarely watch any of the product. I watch all the pay-per-views and major pay-per-views, but he’s certainly carved out a hellacious career in his own right by his own right.

John Cena Responds To AI Comparisons To Premier League Striker Harry Kane

John Cena & Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.

In possibly the most “what the heck” title we will ever see on this blog, John Cena has responded to comparisons between himself and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane made by am AI Chat bot.

During a recent appearance on Sky Sports, Cena read out replies from AI chatbot ChatGPT which compared him to Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane:

“If John Cena were a Premier League footballer, he would be Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. John Cena is highly athletic with a strong work ethic and a track record of high performance at an elite level. Based on these traits, he could be compared to Harry Kane.

John Cena’s dedication to inspire could also be compared to Kane, in his tireless work rate, strong leadership and and positive influence on those around him, both on and off the pitch.”

Despite John Cena being a 14 time WWE Champion and Harry Kane not even managing a Carabao Cup during his tenure at renowned bottle jobs Tottenham Hotspur, ‘The Doctor of Thuganomics’ took the comparisons as a compliment, revealing he was “flattered” to be compared to England’s all time top scorer.

“Harry Kane I’ve never met you but you sound like a hell of a guy. I’ve never had this much flattery bestowed upon me on my life so Harry Kane thank you for making my day. You’ve made me smile and I got to be called a while lot of nice things because of you. If you want a pint somewhere, then I’m your man.”

Mercedes Mone Suffer Major Setback Following Injury At NJPW Resurgence

Mercedes Mone in NJPW & STARDOM

Mercedes Mone made her most recent appearance for NJPW at Resurgence on May 21st, but things didn’t quite work out as she had hoped.

The former WWE star took part in a one-night tournament to decide the NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. In the first round, Mone dispatched Stephanie Vaquer before meeting Willow Nightingale in the final who had earlier got past Momo Kohgo.

With the two stars perched on the top turnbuckle, it was unclear exactly what Mone was trying to do, but as she went to jump she lost her balance slightly and landed awkwardly on the floor.

Although she made it back in the ring and continued the match, Mone was struggling to put any weight on her right leg. It has been reported by PWInsider that the word backstage is that the star has broken her ankle.

An Update on WWE's "Hesitancy" Surrounding Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch's Hollywood Aspirations

Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins in WWE

Last week it was reported that there was “hesitancy” within the WWE to crown Seth Rollins as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion after it was revealed that he would be starring in Hollywood’s latest Marvel project: Captain America: New World Order.

Following the report it was revealed that Rollins would be missing the May 22nd episode of Monday Night Raw due to filming commitments for the Marvel production, despite his featured role in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament that will be culminating this Saturday at Night of Champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

WRKD Wrestling have since clarified their original report, noting that there is not an “immediate fear” surrounding Seth Rollins but rather one for the future, should Rollins & Lynch continue to peruse Hollywood.

“Clarifying a prior report: we’d said that there was “hesitancy” to put the new title on Seth Rollins, due to his role in the new Captain America film. However, its been made clear this isn’t an immediate fear, but for the future, should he & Becky Lynch further pursue Hollywood.”
