Liv Morgan Defends Controversial Promo That Referenced WWE Releases

WWE Superstar Liv Morgan has had her say following a promo with Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch caused a furore after referencing the ongoing releases in WWE.

On the November 29th episode of Monday Night Raw, Liv Morgan and Becky Lynch clashed in a contract signing ahead of their battle for the Raw Women’s Championship. During the signing, things quickly got heated as the champion ran down Morgan, but the challenger swiftly fired back.

Morgan poked fun at Lynch for crying after her match with Charlotte Flair at Survivor Series, before taking aim at The Man over her contract. The number one contender for the Raw Women’s Title said that Lynch’s “big, fat, greedy contract” was the reason that her friends were no longer there.

A reference to Ruby Soho and Sarah Rowe who appeared alongside Morgan as The Riott Squad before both being released as part of company-wide budget cuts.

It was suggested in the aftermath of the show that the comment had left a bad taste in the mouths of some backstage. Edge also made reference to the recent release of John Morrison on the same show during his promo battle with The Miz.

Now speaking on SHAK Wrestling Liv Morgan has addressed the controversy, explaining that she was just speaking her truth:

“I believe that everyone is allowed to feel the way they feel. Everyone is allowed to react the way they want to react. I knew what I was saying might have been a little bit touchy, just because it’s a sensitive topic. But also, like you said, that’s my truth, and that’s how I felt.”

“My friends reached out to me afterward and let me know how awesome they thought it was and how proud they were. I felt okay with it because I felt, one, I was defending their honor. Two, they loved that I did it, and three, it’s just how I felt. Becky has been getting so personal with me and I felt that I needed to bring her back down to reality really quick.”

Liv Morgan will have a chance to capture the Raw Women’s Championship on New Year’s Day when she takes on Becky Lynch at WWE Day 1.
