Liv Morgan has revealed that she used to have a huge crush on one top WWE star before detailing how they influenced her career.
During her WWE career to date Liv Morgan has earned something of a reputation for trying to be as inventive with her ring gear as possible. The SmackDown Women’s Champion has paid tribute to a number of stars, most famously cosplaying as Britney Spears earlier in 2022.
Fans may have also noticed that Morgan tends to wrestle in sneakers rather than traditional wrestling boots. During an appearance on Sneaker Shopping with Complex, the star recalled having a huge crush on fellow WWE star and fellow sneaker-head John Cena.
Morgan explained that she used to pretend to “pump up” her sneakers despite not having the same Reebok Pumps as her hero. (Reebok Pumps had a small button/bulb on the side which when pressed would fill up any space inside the shoe, creating a fully personalised fit)
“I loved John Cena, I thought he was the sh*t,” Morgan admitted. “I had such a crush on him. He would pump his little sneakers, and I’d pump my sneakers and I didn’t even have pumps. I would just [pretend] to push my little pumps [while watching him on TV]. I thought he was amazing. He has been, whether I know it or not, a subconscious influence on my career. You know because he wore sneakers for the majority of his career, so I think maybe it’s something that kind of embedded in my mind, and maybe a reason why I like to wear sneakers.”
Morgan’s sneakers have certainly served her well in recent months as she finally achieved her dream of becoming SmackDown Women’s Champion. At SummerSlam the star successfully defended her title against Ronda Rousey, although the end of the match was shrouded in controversy.
After feeling she had been screwed out of victory by the officials, Rousey attacked Morgan and a referee. She has since been suspended and fined for her actions.
