Liv Morgan Pays Tribute To Beloved WWE Legend During Clash At The Castle

Liv Morgan stands as WWE SmackDown Women's Champion at WWE Clash At The Castle 2022

Liv Morgan successfully retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Clash At The Castle, paying tribute to a WWE legend along the way.

Liv Morgan pinned Shayna Baszler at WWE Clash At The Castle, retaining the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Morgan, who wore an all-white ensemble for the match, retained her title while harking back to a women’s wrestling legend.

That, of course, was WWE Hall of Famer ‘Sensational’ Sherri Martel. Not only did she pay tribute to the one-time Women’s Champion, she wore gear resembling that of Martel’s SummerSlam 1992 attire – the very card that paved the way for Clash At The Castle.

SummerSlam 1992 saw Sensational Sherri play a role in Shawn Michaels and Rick Martel’s clash, which ended in a double count-out when ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ chased the latter backstage. Sherri managed Michaels during the encounter.

The late Sherri Martel was celebrated as one of the greatest valets in wrestling history, outside of her own in-ring success. Clients such as Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, and Harlem Heat were accompanied by her throughout her legendary Manager of the Year-winning career.

She sadly passed away in June 2007 from a drug overdose. Martel was just 49-years-old at the time of her passing. Already a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, she was posthumously inducted into both the Professional Wrestling and Women Superstars Uncensored Halls of Fame in 2014 and 2009, respectively.
