Lita Reveals Why She Didn’t Sign For AEW

WWE Hall of Famer Lita has revealed that she was in talks with AEW and explains why she ultimately turned down a role with the upstart company.

Lita’s WWE career began all the way back in February 2000 when she debuted by the side of Essa Rios. After parting ways with the luchador, she found new heights of success when she teamed up with The Hardy Boyz to form Team Xtreme.

During her career in the company, Lita became a four-time WWE Women’s Champion and participated in some high-profile feuds with the likes of Trish Stratus and Molly Holly. She was involved in the high-profile ‘love triangle’ storyline between Edge and Matt Hardy where art imitated life.

Speaking to Esquire Middle East Lita has discussed her thoughts on AEW and says she had talks with the company before ultimately deciding to continue her career with WWE:

“AEW is doing exciting stuff. It’s brought new life in the industry. Any time there’s competition, it’s good. It revives the industry. When they reached out to me, I did consider it. I said we can talk, I’m interested, you guys are doing some interesting stuff.”

“But ultimately, upon talking to them [AEW], it just made me say to myself, ‘but I have all of these things already!’ I have those things with my home that I’ve known for 20 years, with the people that I’ve worked with for 20 years. Basically, I gave them my blessing. I said I will watch you and I support you. And I want you guys to do great, but this just doesn’t feel like the right fit for me right now.”

Lita returned to WWE for the first time in over three years when she competed in the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match. Although unsuccessful in that endeavour she will challenge Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch for her title at Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia.
