Lita recalls the legendary Eddie Guerrero warning her against doing a painful move, and says that in hindsight, he was absolutely right!
WWE Hall of Famer Lita has never been afraid to take risks, adopting a high flying style and never shying away from taking offense from men she competed with.
Speaking to Alistair McGeorge of Metro.co.uk, the former Women’s Champion opened up about a warning she received from the late great Eddie Guerrero when she asked him to do a move to her on Monday Night Raw.
“There’s one time. I wanted Eddie Guerrero to powerbomb me,” Lita began. “I wanted to jump off the top turnbuckle like I was going to give him a hurricarana to the floor, and he was gonna catch me and powerbomb me. He was like, ‘No way, that’s gonna hurt you so bad! I don’t wanna do that to you, it’s gonna hurt you.’ I was like, ‘No, no, no, it’s gonna be awesome, that’s what I wanna do!’
“He was so adamant about not doing it, and I was do adamant about doing it – and it hurt me! I landed on the ground like, ‘He was right…'”
The match in question saw Lita’s then-partner Esse Rios defend his Light Heavyweight Championship against Dean Malenko. Lita accompanied Rios to the ring while Eddie Guerrero was there to support Malenko as the two were both members of the Radicalz at that time.
After splitting from Esse Rios, Lita would become part of Team XTreme with the Hardy Boyz later on in the year as well as branching out into singles action. She would retire from being a full time wrestling performer in 2006 after her often controversial run alongside Edge, though she has made sporadic appearances since then, most recently competing in the 2022 Royal Rumble. She was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014.
Lita will face Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at the Elimination Chamber
The episode of Monday Night Raw following the 2022 Royal Rumble saw Becky Lynch confront Rumble winner Ronda Rousey in a promo segment in the main event of the show. After Ronda made it clear that she had no intention of choosing her WrestleMania opponent that night and left the arena, the crowd was shocked to hear Lita’s music and see the four time Women’s Champion make her way to the ring to confront Becky Lynch.
The WWE Hall of Famer took the current Raw Women’s Champion to task, saying that if she is indeed a fighting champion, she should be willing to defend her title at the Elimination Chamber. Lynch initially refused, but agreed to the match after being called a coward.
The two recently made history as they became the first women to be featured on a WWE billboard in the country of Saudi Arabia, where the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event will be held.
