Lio Rush To Leave AEW – “I’m A Free Agent”

Lio Rush

Lio Rush has revealed that he is departing AEW, just four months after he signed a full-time deal with the company.

After appearing in AEW at Double or Nothing 2021 during the Casino Battle Royal as the Joker, Rush announced his retirement from professional wrestling – citing his health as the reason. While the high-flyer said he would fulfill his NJPW obligations when healthy and then step away, Rush appeared on Dynamite soon after.

This was followed by the announcement that ‘Lio Rush Is All Elite’ as he signed a deal with AEW. However, the star’s time with the company is apparently ending sooner than many will have anticipated after Rush took to social media to share his startling news.

In the post, Rush simply added the caption “I’m a free agent” to a picture that confirms that he will be leaving AEW on February 14th, 2022.

Lio Rush was one of the main voices who criticised AEW President Tony Khan after his very public spat with former AEW star Big Swole.

In Tweets, Rush appeared to demand an apology from Khan before later issuing a statement where he explained that he has since spoken to Tony Khan and Megah Parekh and discussed their “endeavours to further understand the struggles of the black community”. He went on to say that he is proud to work for Khan and AEW.

Lio Rush will compete at The WRLD on GCW when Game Changer Wrestling emanates from Hammerstein Ballroom on the 23rd of January. Rush will be part of the Grab The Brass Ring ladder match on a show that features AEW star Jon Moxley in the main event defending his GCW Championship against Homicide.
