Ronda Rousey recently sparked controversy for throwing shade at her former rival, WWE Superstar Alexa Bliss.
WWE booked Bliss as the former UFC fighter’s conquest at SummerSlam 2018, where the latter won the RAW Women’s Championship for the first time in her pro wrestling career.
Dutch Mantell noted that Ronda Rousey’s problems stem from a job and not personal choice. Thus, Mantell stated that Rousey has to take “the good with the bad,” and implied there is no rhyme or reason to look at it in a bad light now, as they had good matches.
Dutch Mantell Shares Personal Story, Says Ronda Rousey’s WWE Problems Were Not Exclusive To Females
On Story Time with Dutch Mantell, Dutch Mantell recalled a time in his younger days when wrestlers refused to work with him because of his size. When the star’s value is high, then it’s the other wrestler’s job to get down to brass tacks and do business.
In the case of Ronda Rousey vs. Alexa Bliss, Bliss was popular then, and she is popular now. Rousey herself pointed out that her rival’s ability to sell merchandise was impeccable, so WWE valued that.
That’s not [Ronda Rousey’s] choice; that’s a job. So, you either take it and do the best with it you can – but to me, that’s a personal thing.
I’ve seen this before because guys–and it’s not strictly a female problem–lot of guys say he’s too little or he’s too this. I’ve had guys say that about me. Big guys going, ‘I don’t want to work with him, he’s too small,’ even though I was about 6 foot and 210. But anyway, it’s just what it is.
So, she has to take the good with the bad. They are paying her to do a job, and she needs to go in there and do the best she can with it. They had pretty good matches, didn’t they?
This storyline succeeded Ronda Rousey’s feud with Nia Jax, a much larger opponent than Alexa Bliss. Still, WWE booked Bliss to successfully cash in Money in the Bank on Jax and move on to a summer program for The Baddest Woman on the Planet against her.
