Former NXT Star Leon Ruff Makes AEW Debut

Leon Ruff

Former NXT North American Champion Leon Ruff has crossed the wrestling divide after he made his debut for All Elite Wrestling.

Leon Ruff was part of WWE between 2020 and 2021 where he competed chiefly on the NXT brand. Ruff was mainly used as enhancement talent early in his run sharing the ring with the likes of Aleister Black, Sheamus, Tommaso Ciampa, and Karrion Kross.

Ruff’s first victory in the company proved to be the biggest of his time in WWE as he defeated Johnny Gargano on the 11th of November 2020 edition of NXT television to shockingly become the NXT North American Champion.

Leon Ruff held the title for just under a month before losing it in a Triple Threat match at NXT TakeOver WarGames IV back to Gargano in a bout that also involved Damian Priest.

In August Ruff was released from his WWE contract as part of continuing cost-cutting measures in the company. Since then he has competed a handful of times including for GCW and Jonathan Gresham’s Terminus promotion but now he has made his debut for AEW.

At the latest AEW Dark tapings held in Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, Leon Ruff competed against another NXT alumnus, Tony Nese.

Ruff was not the only debutant at the tapings as former IMPACT Wrestling star Jake Something also made his AEW debut against Jay Lethal.
