Legendary WWE Star Shoots Hard On Triple H: “Puppet Master”

Triple H's WWE Unreal documentary on NetFlix sparked reactions from wrestling world.

A WWE legend harshly called Triple H a “Puppet Master.”

WWE Unreal premiered on July 29 on Netflix and is available to stream. It showcases how the Stamford-based promotion works when the lights are off. It also reveals the human side of superstars and their daily life in the company, especially Chief Content Officer Triple H, who oversees the creative side.

Since then, the documentary has received mixed reactions from the wrestling world, and one of them is former superstar Maven Huffman. Giving his thoughts on his YouTube Channel, Maven felt Triple H has replaced former chairman and Chief Executive Officer Vince McMahon in terms of controlling everything in the company.

“Hunter is that now [Vince McMahon]. Hunter is the one being the puppet master. He’s the one directing everything,” Maven said. [from 2:30 – 2:39]

As the inaugural Tough Enough Winner saw the CM Punk-Triple H bit about trusting each other, he savagely roasted the latter, saying only his best friend, Shawn Michaels, trusted him.

“No one trusted you, Hunter. Not a damn…. Shawn [Michaels] trusted you. There’s your list,” Maven added. [from 9:40 – 9:45]

The Netflix documentary consisted of five episodes: New Era (RAW on Netflix premier), Push (the creative team booking Royal Rumble), Worth The Wait (Bianca Belair, Chelsea Green and Charlotte Flair dealing injuries and preparing for their returns leading to WrestleMania), Heel Turn (John Cena’s shocking heel turn) and WrestleMania (Behind the scenes footage of WrestleMania 41).

Triple H defended WWE Unreal by comparing it to Formula 1

The majority of the wrestling world didn’t take the Netflix documentary well, as they felt it destroyed “kayfabe” even further. Speaking to ESPN’s First Take, Triple H thought that criticisms of Unreal aren’t really serious to take and that the audience would rather appreciate how the business works.

The Chief Content Officer then compared the documentary to that of F1’s ‘Drive to Survive’, which tackles the behind-the-scenes aspect of the sport. He shared that by revealing the behind-the-scenes aspect, people will respect what the superstars and executives are going through during their everyday in the business.

He added that by watching the Netflix documentary, fans will have more appreciation for the product and the superstars’ passion in delivering their very best night in and night out.
