Fans were left shocked during the live 22 November, 2021 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw when Seth Rollins, who’d just left Finn Balor laying in the ring, was ambushed by an apparent fan.
The fan had been able to jump the guardrail and tackle Rollins to the ground in the rampway. Though the fan caught The visionary by surprise, he soon gained control of the situation, aided by WWE officials who removed the man from the arena.
At the time, Rollins described the attack as “terrifying”, recalling that he was mostly just reacting and waiting for security to intervene.
“It’s terrifying, brother.
“It happened very quickly. I was mostly just reacting and hoping that our security would come and do their job. Which they did very quickly. And then was just trying to detach and move on. Hope that everybody is okay.”
The attacker was later identified as 24-year-old Elisah Spencer, he was held by the NYPD on charges of aggravated assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs by disrupting a live sports event.
Eric Bischoff believes the attack looked bad for Seth Rollins
One man who thinks Seth Rollins came out of the incident looking bad is WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff.
Speaking to Renee Paquette on The Sessions, Bischoff explained that Seth Rollins’ reaction to the assault “didn’t look good”.
“But here’s what made it look bad for Seth. The guy took Seth down. Depending on who you listen to, Seth was moving in for a choke. Security hit, there’s bodies, like 800 lbs of body everywhere.”
“And then three or four guys from security finally get this cat off Seth, and then Seth stands up and says, ‘Is that all you got?!’
“That’s something I was hoping we wouldn’t see on television because that didn’t look good. Well, we didn’t see it on TV, but we saw it after the fact.”
