Latest Update On Drew McIntyre’s WWE Contract Status

Drew McIntyre has not one but two challenges ahead of him in 2023. One of them is right on the horizon as he faces both GUNTHER and Sheamus for the former’s Intercontinental Championship. The other one is whether or not he will re-sign with WWE by year’s end.

According to PWInsider, Drew McIntyre’s contract is set to expire within the next nine months, which would McIntyre in renewal discussions around December of this year or January 2024.

Additionally, Drew McIntyre doesn’t appear to be rushing to sign anything right now. According to Fightful Select, McIntyre is biding his time and waiting until closer to his renewal date to make a decision.

Fightful noted that McIntyre is allegedly considering “a number of factors” as he contemplates his wrestling future. McIntyre is one of many WWE wrestlers who was indirectly impacted by the creation and continuing existence of AEW. When that company launched, WWE went on a signing spree that saw many 5-year contracts put in place.

That was in 2019. And now that 2024 is on the horizon and those 5-year contracts are approaching their expiration dates, many wrestlers are expected to be in negotiations with WWE all throughout this year and into early 2024.

Furthermore, WWE as a company also had the same negotiation philosophy of waiting until closer to renewal date to sign anything or make anything official. There hasn’t been any indication on whether that mentality will change with Triple H taking over from Vince McMahon.

Lastly, Fightful noted that WWE is determined to keep Drew McIntyre signed and they were likely approach him later this year to begin discussing his future.
