One of the most influential and important people in WWE is Kevin Dunn. His isn’t a name that most people know about, especially if they don’t listen to shoot interviews or browse WWE’s corporate page. However, Kevin Dunn remains one of the most important people in the company…which is why his absence from Survivor Series led to some speculation on his status within the company.
Kevin Dunn has been WWE’s Executive Vice Present of Television and Live Events for decades. According to Jim Cornette, Dunn got a “job for life” in WWE after his father rescued some critical WWF tapes from a burning car. Because of that, Dunn has been in a position of power longer than quite possibly anyone else in WWE.
However, there have been many stories from former WWE employees/personalities that haven’t exactly painted Kevin Dunn in the best light. Perhaps most famous among these have been Jim Cornette and William ‘Paul Bearer/Percy Pringle’ Moody. Both of them lambasted Kevin Dunn for everything from his manner of speaking to his negative attitude towards wrestling in general.
So when reports emerged that Kevin Dunn was absent for Survivor Series, speculation soon followed regarding Dunn’s future within WWE. After all, Dunn was close to Vince McMahon and few others, and his own worldview surrounding wrestling would’ve put him at odds with Triple H who, since taking over WWE’s creative direction, has embraced pro-wrestling.
Dunn still working for WWE
When all of this speculation emerged, Fightful Select was quick to respond with some information on Kevin Dunn:
“Kevin Dunn is still with WWE for those who have been asking. He wasn’t at WWE Survivor Series, but remains with the company. We’ve asked, but haven’t heard of any plans for him to not be there coming soon.”
Dunn’s future in WWE remains ambiguous as conflicting reports continue to emerge. Ever since Vince McMahon left the company, both Stephanie McMahon and Triple H have absorbed different parts of Vince’s job.
And while Triple H reportedly had some positive things to say about Dunn, Stephanie was said to not get along with him at all.
