CJ Perry, formerly known as Lana has revealed that during her time with WWE she attempted to look like Charlotte Flair, hoping that it would help her win the Women’s Championship.
Perry joined WWE in 2013 managing the man who would later become her real-life husband, Rusev. Now known as Miro in AEW.
Following a successful stint alongside Rusev all the way to the upper echelons of the main roster, the star began to regularly appear as a wrestler. After Miro was released in 2020, Lana transitioned into a full-time in-ring performer, via a short lived storyline with Bobby Lashley.
Prior to her release by WWE on June 2nd, Perry had been teaming with Naomi in an effort to win the Women’s Tag Team Title’s after a single’s run opposite Nia Jax.
Appearing during a virtual signing with East Coast Autograph Auctions, Perry commented on a photo from her “bulking days.” Adding that she tried to get bigger in order to look more like Charlotte Flair in the hope it would help her get a run with a Women’s Championship.
“Probably 2017-2018, I felt like if I could bulk up and look like Charlotte Flair, then maybe I could become champion. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for me. You know, not everyone can be genetically superior and also have a famous father that is 16, 17 time (champion). His daughter is going to surpass him pretty soon.”
Following her departure from WWE, Perry is yet to return to the ring despite teasing joining her husband Miro in AEW.
Charlotte Flair remains with WWE and is the current Raw Women’s Champion. However, during the 2021 WWE Draft, Flair was drafted to SmackDown.
