LA Knight disagrees with The Rock.
From the sold-out arenas to record-breaking financials, WWE feels as hot as it did back in The Attitude Era, possibly even hotter. While there was a significant spike in popularity in 2023, the start of the year saw the company go into overdrive with the return of The Rock and his inclusion in The Bloodline’s battle with Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes.
Appearing in lengthy promos on social media, The Rock has declared that wrestling is cool once more and is set for an even bigger 2025 when the partnership with Netflix begins. Humble as ever, The Great One also declared in his promos that the main reason why wrestling has become cool once more is because of his involvement both onscreen and on the TKO Board of Directors.
Although the Hollywood star returning to wrestling is a massive deal, not everyone is pleased with the way he has gone about things. Inserting himself into the main event picture to the detriment of Cody Rhodes, the #WeWantCody movement rang throughout social media, leading The Rock to birth the term “Cody Crybabies.”
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Knight discussed the return of legends such as The People’s Champion and admitted that he can see both sides to the argument:
“It depends how they are coming into the fold and what they’re doing. In this regard, you look at it both ways. You’re looking at one of the most recognizable faces in the world as far as television, movies, media in general. There is something to be added there. At the same time, you do have to look at your audience and say, ‘we’re moving in this direction. The audience wants this. Now, to do this, it’s going to look self-serving. It’s going to probably peeve a lot of people.’ There are a lot of different ways to look at it.
My personal opinion, without going too deep into it, is that there is some merit to having him there and at the same time, we were doing very well selling out and all that stuff even without him. He can only add to it or I guess some people could say he could take away from it. You never know. As far as business is concerned, business is good. It’s good with him, it’s good without him.”
While Knight agrees with The Rock to a degree, he draws the line at The Great One’s viewpoint that wrestling was cool when he returned:
“I hear him say wrestling is cool again, and he’s right, but I want to make sure everybody knows it started getting cool again six or seven months before he got there. I’m not saying he can’t add to that cool factor or that he won’t. I’m just saying, wrestling is cool again, and wrestling was cool again before he came back. I don’t want it to seem like all of a sudden it happened because of him. Nah nah.”
LA Knight Pitches Unique WrestleMania Entrance
Unlike 2023, Knight will be competing at WrestleMania 40 as he faces off against fellow SmackDown star AJ Styles. Looking to make his entrance fit for a Megastar, LA Knight has discussed a special entrance for Philadelphia.
