Ahead of his paradigm-shifting main event at NXT TakeOver: In Your House, Kyle O’Reilly sat down with TVInsider to discuss a range of topics including his upcoming NXT Championship match and his iconic partnership with Adam Cole as part of the beloved Undisputed Era.
At NXT TakeOver: In Your House, Kyle O’Reilly will step into the ring with some of NXT’s best as he looks to capture his first piece of singles gold since signing for the WWE back in 2017 following a successful spell in Ring of Honor and NJPW.
The 34-year-old will step into the ring against Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne & Karrion Kross in the shows main event with the prestigious NXT Championship on the line.
Ahead of the show, O’Reilly discussed his recent rivalry with former Undisputed Era teammate Adam Cole revealing that his family were in hysterics due to the internet rumours surrounding his worked injury following a brutal attack from Cole culminating with a Brainbuster onto the steel steps.
The angle gained social media traction at the time due to concerned Tweets from the NXT Universe in attendance as there was a serious belief that the injuries O’Reilly had sustained including an alleged Seizure were legitimate.
Discussing his families reaction, O’Reilly told TVInsider that it was his Sister that had the worst reaction to the segment:
“My sister. That was the first thing she saw was this rumor on Twitter before I’d even had the chance to give her a call and let her know I was okay. She called me in hysterics freaking out. That made me sad because here is someone who is family who sees something on Twitter and was concerned. I knew [social media’s speculation] came from a caring and genuine place. They were concerned. I can’t fault anyone for that.”
During the same interview, O’Reilly discussed the Undisputed Era’s separation and his reaction to being told that the group were finally going to go their separate ways.
‘The Ambassador of Kickassador’ would comment:
“To a degree, it was heartbreaking because we put so much into this group. Groups don’t last for very long in the wrestling business in WWE. So the fact the four of us were a faction for as long as we were and accomplished so many things. That was such an amazing ride as The Undisputed Era. Whether it was time or wasn’t to break up, these things happen. Who is to say The Undisputed Era won’t reunite? To break up makes the reunion that much sweeter.”
