This weeks NXT TV saw another layer added to the month long rivalry that has been building between NXT Superstars Kushida and The Velveteen Dream. During the ‘Gauntlet Eliminator’ match that main evented this weeks programming Dream interfered hitting the former six time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion with the ‘Dream Valley Driver’ to allow Bronson Reed to pick up the pinfall elimination and destroy any chance Kushida had at challenging Finn Balor at TakeOver 30.
The rivalry between Dream and Kushida originates back to the August 12th edition of NXT on which Dream made his return to NXT, in a Triple Threat match against Kushida and Grimes, following an unexplained absence with a new look and attitude. Both Kushida and Dream were ultimately unsuccessful with Grimes advancing to TakeOver: XXX and the new attitude Dream took out his frustrations on Kushida, attacking him after the bell. Kushida would return several weeks later viciously attacking Dream introducing a new darker layer to the Kushida character than previously shown in NXT and intensifying his rivalry with Dream in the process.
It was announced on WWE NXT Twitter last night that the two rivals will face off in singles action this coming sunday at NXT TakeOver: 31.
