KUSHIDA Reportedly Gone From WWE

KUSHIDA

Former Cruiserweight Champion KUSHIDA has reportedly left the WWE.

In recent months, Japanese sensation KUSHIDA has been part of a tag team with Ikemen Jiro on NXT 2.0. Known as Jacket Time, the team has served mostly as a comedy act on the show, and they have also made appearances on NXT: Level Up.

On the evening of April 18th, eagle eyed fans noticed that KUSHIDA’s official profile on WWE.com had been moved to the Alumni section instead of him being listed as a member of the active roster. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful later confirmed that the star is indeed gone from the WWE.

Fightful Select provided more information on the situation, reporting that the former Cruiserweight Champion’s deal had expired, but no information was available as to whether or not he was offered a new deal by the company.

In April 2021, KUSHIDA defeated Santos Escobar to become the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, and while it seemed that this championship win might signal him being featured more prominently on television, the change in direction of the promotion meant that the Cruiserweight Championship wasn’t as heavily featured. Roderick Strong defeated the former New Japan star to become the new champion in September, and the belt was eventually retired.

Before signing with WWE in 2019, KUSHIDA was a prominent star in New Japan Pro Wrestling and one of the company’s most decorated junior heavyweights.

Inside the Ropes will continue to report on this story as more information becomes available.
