WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle says that despite publicly retiring he believes Vince McMahon is still pulling the strings in WWE.
On the 22nd of July, the wrestling world changed forever when Vince McMahon announced his retirement from WWE. The announcement came amid investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct and hush money payments being levelled at the WWE Chairman but after 40 years in charge still caught the wrestling business by surprise.
Since then, Triple H has taken over as the Head of Creative and the Head of Talent Relations in WWE with Stephanie McMahon being named as co-CEO with company President, Nick Khan.
Speaking to former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree on his Cafe de Rene podcast, Kurt Angle has given his take on the situation and says with his family members replacing him, Vince McMahon could still be calling the shots:
“I personally don’t think he has fully retired. You know Vince, he’s gonna be behind the scenes. Vince is not letting go of that company, he will not let it go until his hands are dead cold and they pry it out of his cold dead hands. He’s not letting go of that company until he dies, and that’s just it.”
“I’m not trying to cause any problems for WWE or for Vince McMahon, because I love Vince to death. But there is no way that he is going to let it go. He already set up Stephanie being in charge and Triple H being in charge of Talent Relations. He got everyone in the right positions so that he could continue to run the show. So I’m not trying to tell everyone ‘Hey world, Vince McMahon is still involved.’ He might not be, but I think he is. He’s on the phone ‘Stephanie. Call this, call that.’”
Despite Kurt Angle’s thoughts on the matter, a recent report has indicated that Vince McMahon is definitely no longer involved in the day-to-day running of WWE.
