WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle has discussed threatening Vince McMahon and recalled the WWE Chairman’s surprising reaction to his threats.
In 2006, Kurt Angle was looking for a way out of WWE and was becoming more and more incensed with Vince McMahon as he felt the boss was ignoring him.
Taking drastic action to get McMahon’s attention, the Olympic gold medallist took to threatening his boss with physical violence by text message.
Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show [available early and ad-free at AdFreeShows.com], Angle discussed meeting McMahon face to face after the text exchange with McMahon forcing Angle to read the offending messages aloud. According to Kurt Angle, the Chairman of the Board came ready for a fight:
“I’m reading the text messages, and as I’m doing it, Vince says, ‘You want to beat my ass?’ He stands up and takes his jacket off and says ‘let’s fight right now.’ I’m like, holy sh*t, my boss, the man I look up to as a father figure, wants to beat my ass. I look around the room and Shane is halfway out of his seat because if I get up, Shane is gonna jump me.”
“I was like, ‘What the hell are these?’ I’m reading them, and they say ‘Vince, I’m gonna kick your ass when I see you,’ ‘Vince if you don’t call me back, I’m gonna beat the sh*t out of you,’ all these threats.”
Kurt Angle has talked openly about struggling with addiction during this period as his 7-year career in WWE was coming to an end.
Following his WWE exit, Angle began a decade-long run in TNA where he became a record-breaking six-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion as he tangled with the likes of Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and Sting. Angle was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2017.
