Kurt Angle Reveals Who He Believes Could Be The Next Brock Lesnar

By Paul Sinclair. Published 26th April 2021.

Kurt Angle recently shared his opinion on Gable Steveson, stating that the freestyle wrestling athlete has the potential to be the next Brock Lesnar in WWE.

During a recent episode of ‘The Kurt Angle Show’, the former Olympian shared his thoughts on Steveson, who recently appeared at night two of NXT: Stand and Deliver. Steveson was also backstage at WrestleMania 37, pictured with the likes of Roman Reigns and Bad Bunny. The 20 year old freestyle wrestler is currently scheduled to compete at the 2021 Olypmic games in Tokyo but rumours surrounding WWE and Gable have been circulating for some time.

When describing Gable Steveson, Angle surmised that the young athlete has the potential to be a main event player in WWE:

“I think he’s going to be a big star. Look at his look. If he adapts to pro wrestling and picks it up like Brock Lesnar, he’s going to be exactly like Brock Lesnar. I think he needs to take the chance, whether he goes to MMA or WWE, one or the other, but he’s got to do one of them. I think he is a future star regardless of what he does. He’s got a great look to him, great athlete.”

Steveson and Lesnar share a similar athletic background. Gable is the reigning NCAA Division I Heavyweight Champion and a two-time All American at the University of Minnesota, similar to Lesnar prior to his WWE debut.

Although no official plans have been announced regarding WWE and Gable Stevenson, the NCAA Champion hinted at an upcoming debut with the company in a tweet earlier this year:

Brock Lesnar and Gable Steveson are no stranger to one another. Having both represented the University of Minnesota in wrestling tournaments, footage emerged in January 2021 of the pair training together at the University. When discussing his relationship with Lesnar, Gable Steveson appears appreciative of ‘The beast incarnate’ and the guidance he shows:

”My relationship with Brock has been awesome. It’s outstanding that a guy like that has noticed me and has gone out of his way to be there for me and guide me in the right direction.”

Kurt Angle is also no stranger to Brock Lesnar. The pair would headline WrestleMania XIX in 2003, with Lesnar defeating Angle for the WWE Undisputed Championship. The match is also remembered as featuring one of the most infamous Shooting Star Presses of all time.
