WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has revealed that he was part of WWE’s creative team during his main event run in the early 2000’s.

After making his WWE debut at Survivor Series in November 1999, Angle quickly rose through the WWE’s ranks. Within 12 months, Angle had already captured the European Championship, the Intercontinental Championship and the WWE Championship.

Once Angle arrived in the main event picture he remained at the top of the card for the duration of his stay with the company.

Reflecting on this period of his career on a recent episode of his podcast, The Kurt Angle Show, (Available via Ad Free Shows) the former World Champion explained that he was made part of the creative team.

“Actually they made me part of creative. I’ve got that top spot, creative started calling me every week bouncing ideas off of me,” Angle said. “Vince would even call me at times. I had Vince’s ear and he had mine. When you’re in the top spot like that, Vince wants to make sure that everything’s going perfectly. He wants to fill the talent in on what they need to do and how they’re going to about the next storyline or whatever it is. He’ll throw ideas at you, and you can say yes or no. For the most part, they’ll go with whatever you decide. For me, I was good with anything. I’d just say yes whenever creative would throw an idea at me.”

Angle said that while he worked with a number of people on creative, he worked most closely with Brian Gewirtz.

“Brian [Gewirtz], Bruce [Prichard], Vince. All of them, even JR,” JR wasn’t part of creative, but at times he’d call me and give me some advice. For the most part, it was Brian Gewirtz throwing ideas back at me.”

Although Angle retired from in-ring competition in 2019, rumours have persisted about the former Olympian coming out of retirement for one more match. Speaking on another episode of his podcast, Angle suggested that he might be tempted to come out of retirement for ten million dollars and a match with Kenny Omega. Although he jokingly admitted that not even that sum of money might be enough to pacify his wife!
