Kurt Angle has told the incredible story of the plane ride that seemed to never end as WWE Chairman Vince McMahon continually tried to wrestle the Olympic gold medallist.
Angle told the unbelievable story on a Q and A episode of his podcast, The Kurt Angle Show. Answering a question about another infamous plane ride – the plane ride from hell. Angle recounted his own hell at 30,000 feet, having to repeatedly wrestle the WWE Chairman.
“Oh God, it was the longest night of my life. The thing was, I was on the plane and Vince had a few wines in him, a few glasses of wine and he was feeling frisky. He thought ‘hey if I’m gonna wrestle someone that’s the best, might as well wrestle an Olympic gold medallist, I’m gonna try him out.'”
“You have to understand Vince is the type of guy that would say to Mike Tyson ‘hey, knock me out. Go ahead hit me in the face, I wanna feel what it’s like.’ He wants to feel what it’s like to be with the best person. And I totally get it. You know, Vince is crazy so he’s jumping on me or he would have somebody come get me and say they want to talk to me in the back of the plane. I’d get up and he’d jump me from behind and we would wrestle.”
“We did it for five hours like wrestling a few minutes I’d hold him down and say ‘are we good?’ and he’d say ‘yeah, yeah, we’re good.’ I’d go back and lay down and he would jump on me again or he’d have someone call me up to go to the back of the plane, he’d jump on me again. So it went for five hours and it just became very irritating.”
Kurt Angle continued, noting how close the pair could have come to disaster with their wrestling antics:
“The crazy thing is we were on the plane and there were wine stains all over the floor. The floor was white carpet and there were just wine stains everywhere. Vince and I are wrestling near the door with the latch. You pull the latch and push the door and the door opens then you fly out of the plane. We kept hitting the latch while we were wrestling. So the flight attendant came and said ‘hey, the pilot said if you don’t sit down and stop he’s gonna land this plane right now.'”
“Vince says ‘go tell the pilot to f**k himself, I’ll buy the f***ing plane.’ I was like ‘oh my God!’ So here we are wrestling on the plane and we’re getting ready to land. They finally get Vince to calm down and we’re getting ready to hit the ground. Chris Jericho’s sitting in front of me. He looks back at me and says ‘hey, look who’s coming up the aisle.’ And while we’re hitting the ground, landing Vince is army-crawling up the aisle to jump on me again. And I’m like ‘holy s**t, this is the night that will never end.'”
During the episode, Kurt Angle also revealed who he thinks is the most underrated wrestler he has ever squared off against.
