‘Olympic Gold Medallist’ Kurt Angle has told of how Vince McMahon loved the look of Lars Sullivan, but how the powerhouse needed more training in order to succeed.
Lars Sullivan was released from World Wrestling Entertainment in January 2021 after being away from television since the previous November. The absence hadn’t been his first with Sullivan previous truant from the company due to a combined anxiety and knee injury issue upon his initial main roster debut in 2019.
However, according to former WWE Champion Kurt Angle, Vince McMahon was high on the personality and loved his fearsome, indomitable look as told on the most recent edition of his Kurt Angle Show podcast:
“It would have been great; I wouldn’t have been upset if Lars Sullivan worked out. But, you know, Vince loved his look. Loved his strength and explosiveness. I just think that he wasn’t as experienced as he could have been to start out. I think he needed a little bit more training, and he was still learning. He was very, very basic in, you know, but he had an incredible look, and I think Vince was drawn to that. So, you know, I had to put Lars over. It was just another one of those things that I did before I made my way out of the company as a wrestler.”
The moment Angle talked about occurred on the April 8, 2019, Monday Night Raw when Sullivan made his official main roster debut by attacking a retired Kurt Angle who had lost to Baron Corbin the previous evening at WrestleMania 35.
Following his release from the company, Sullivan spoke about how grateful he was for the time he received in the ring and revealed ‘The Brilliant Behemoth’ Lawrence Sullivan character he was intended to be brought back as.
