WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has spoken on what could have convinced him to take on Brock Lesnar in an MMA fight.
Kurt Angle has battled Brock Lesnar in the wrestling ring in the past, and every match between the two has been an instant classic. However, the Olympic Gold Medallist has never met the former UFC Heavyweight Champion in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. In the past, Angle has revealed that he was offered a lucrative contract with UFC when he left WWE in 2006 but turned it down due to signing with TNA. The opportunity came up again in 2010, when Lesnar was in the midst of his title reign, but by that time the wrestling legend felt that he was too old to make the jump.
Speaking on his podcast, ‘The Kurt Angle Show‘ (available on AdFreeShows), the multi-time WWE Champion said that he wouldn’t have wanted to fight Lesnar in an MMA fight out of respect for their friendship. However, if the money had been right, they “would’ve went at it.”
“I would not want to fight Brock out of respect for him and the friendship we had. But if the money were right, I know he would want to fight me and I know I would want to fight him too. It is all about money. Sometimes it kind of sucks, you can’t take that personally because you’re trying to provide money to take care of them. That comes first before friendship, so I’m sure Brock and I, if they would’ve gave us the right figure, we probably would’ve went at it.”
Kurt Angle has also recently said that, if he had decided to join Dana White’s UFC, the company had a surprising opponent in mind for his first fight, former WWE Tough Enough contestant Daniel Puder.
