Kurt Angle thinks Gable Steveson is going to be a big star and thinks the college wrestling standout needs to take a chance on WWE.
Steveson is the reigning NCAA Division I Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, competing for the University of Minnesota. Former WWE and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar won that championship, representing the same University in the year Steveson was born.
The Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle was asked during an episode of The Kurt Angle Show what he thinks the chances of Steveson becoming a star were.
Angle was unequivocal:
“I think he’s gonna be a big star. Look at his look. If he adapts to pro-wrestling and picks it up like Brock Lesnar, he’s gonna be exactly like Brock Lesnar. So, I think he needs to take the chance. Whether he goes to MMA or WWE, one or the other but he’s gotta do one of them. I think that he is a future star regardless of what he does. He’s got a great look to him, a great athlete.”
Gable Steveson has the chance to follow in Angle’s footsteps at the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games. Steveson qualified for the Games after winning the US Olympic Team Trials in early April 2021. Steveson is set to represent Team USA in freestyle wrestling at the 125kg weight division. Team USA has won gold in that weight class at the last two Olympic Games
If Steveson did pursue a career in WWE, he would follow in the footsteps of other Olympians such as Ken Patera, Mark Henry, and Ronda Rousey.
