WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle claims current WWE announcer Nigel McGuinness could have been world champion and says he wishes he’d faced him at WrestleMania.
Kurt Angle and Nigel McGuinness squared off numerous times when both men competed for TNA. McGuinness was known as Desmond Wolfe during his run with the company following a run in Ring Of Honor where he held the ROH World Championship for a staggering 545 days.
Speaking on a Gold Medal Q&A first available on AdFreeShows.com, the Olympic gold medallist reminisced on his bouts with McGuinness in TNA during the men’s time there:
“Nigel was incredible. We had an awesome match…our three matches were unbelievable. It was one of my favorite programmes that I worked in TNA or even WWE. I wish my match with him would’ve been on the biggest stage at WrestleMania.”
“That’s how Nigel McGuinness was. I have a lot of respect for the kid and I think that his future if he didn’t have that disease, he would’ve went on to become WWE Champion.”
“He had all the tools – he could talk, cut promos, he had a great character, his in-ring skills were phenomenal, I absolutely loved the kid.”
Sadly, Nigel McGuinness was forced to bring the curtain down on his in-ring wrestling career prematurely after he was diagnosed with hepatitis B. He subsequently returned to Ring Of Honor as a commentator before taking his skills to WWE in 2017. He currently can be found at the commentary desk on NXT UK and 205 Live.
