WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has gotten into the spirit of #CenaMonth by naming his favourite match featuring WWE icon, John Cena.
John Cena will return to WWE television for the first time since SummerSlam 2021 when he appears on Raw live in Laredo, Texas. The timing is significant for Cena as his Raw appearance will coincide with the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut.
Back in 2002, a young John Cena burst onto the WWE stage, answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge and dishing a fair amount of ruthless aggression out to the Olympic gold medallist.
Speaking to TV Insider, Kurt Angle was asked which match between himself and John Cena stands out as his favourite. Naturally, for Angle it was a bout where he made Cena tap out:
“I would say probably where I made him tap. I believe it may have been No Mercy2003. We had a really good match. John stayed with me and worked really hard. He hit all his moves. The match was magic and one of my favourite matches. All my favourite matches though are when I make someone tap out. [Laughs].”
That No Mercy show was headlined by Brock Lesnar successfully defending his WWE Championship against The Undertaker in a Biker’s Chain match. It is however probably best remembered for the infamous No Holds Barred I Quit match between Vince McMahon and his daughter Stephanie McMahon.
