Kurt Angle has strong admiration for one of his greatest rivals in WWE!
Shortly after making his WWE debut on SmackDown, Rey Mysterio faced Kurt Angle on pay-per-view in the opener of SummerSlam 2002. Angle picked up the win, but Mysterio left an impression on the crowd with his impressive quickness and mastery of Lucha Libre.
Speaking on the Kurt Angle Show (available early via AdFreeShows), the WWE Hall of Famer spoke about his rivalry with Rey Mysterio and praised the luchador, saying he’d loved him since the first day they met.
“Rey [Mysterio] is such a great worker. I knew the match would be awesome. I wasn’t that concerned about him, but I knew it was up to me to establish him. I was happy to do that. He’s such a great wrestler, not only that, he’s a great individual. He’s one of my best friends, I absolutely loved Rey the day I met him, and I never fell out of love with him. I love the guy today. I would marry the dude. He’s awesome.”
Mysterio is currently set to team with Edge and face off against Damian Priest and Finn Balor of The Judgment Day at September 3rd’s Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event in Cardiff, Wales. This will mark the first time WWE has held a stadium show in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992.
