John Cena gave his appreciation to Kurt Angle after his iconic debut.
Twenty years ago, John Cena wrestled his first match on SmackDown against Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle. Cena would then go on to become one of WWE’s top superstars. Although many fans know what happened during that match, not much has been said about what happened afterward. Now, Angle is opening up about his interaction with Cena after the match.
Speaking with TV Insider, Angle revealed that Cena showed a lot of gratitude to him after lasting 12 minutes in the ring:
“All I said was, ‘You stepped up tonight. It was a great match.’ He said, ‘Thank you, Mr. Angle, for working with me. I really do appreciate it’ He was very respectful. I knew this kid was very special from the first time I got in the ring and after I got done wrestling him, I knew he would be a huge star down the road.”
WWE is celebrating 20 years of John Cena this month. He most recently returned to Monday Night RAW to address the fans in Texas. Cena has successfully transitioned to acting, appearing in DC properties and the action-packed Fast and The Furious movies. While there’s no confirmation on when Cena will wrestle again, fans of his are sure to be excited when he does return.
