Kurt Angle began his pro wrestling career in 1999 when he debuted for WWE at that year’s Survivor Series. The Olympic Gold Medallist had a hugely successful seven-year run in the company, capturing all of the accolades on offer. This included winning the King of the Ring tournament in 2000, the European Championship, WWE Tag Team Championship, World Heavyweight Title, and becoming a four-time WWE Champion.
The end of his first run in the company came to an end in 2006 and he soon found himself in TNA. During his decade in that promotion, he continued his winning ways and took on WWE stars in AJ Styles and Samoa Joe as well as legends like Sting and Hulk Hogan.
In 2017, Kurt Angle was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and, later that year, had his first match back in the company when he took the place of Roman Reigns in The Shield for one night only at TLC to defeat Braun Strowman, Kane, Sheamus, and Cesaro – now AEW’s Claudio Castagnoli.
In 2019, Angle took part in the last match of his career at WrestleMania 35 in a losing effort against Baron Corbin.
Kurt Angle reveals his asking price to get back in the ring
Since that match, however, Angle has received offers to return to the ring, including from AEW President Tony Khan, who asked him to join his company when it was just starting up. At the time, he told Khan he wanted $3 million to do 10 matches.
In the past few years, however, it seems the Wrestling Machine’s asking price has risen substantially.
On the latest episode of The Kurt Angle Show, the star discussed the possibility of returning to WWE for one more match against Shane McMahon at WrestleMania. While answering the question, he revealed that it would take “a lot of money”, specifically citing a whopping $10 million.
“Oh man, that’s tough. It would have to be a lot of money man. I’m talking like $10 million [laughs]. WWE could afford it so…”
