Kurt Angle did not enjoy his time as a WWE producer.
Like many who have decided to call time on their in-ring career, Angle made the transition from Superstar to backstage after his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 where Angle would lose to Baron Corbin.
Unfortunately for the Hall of Famer, Angle was the victim of many company releases throughout the pandemic due to budget cuts, with the Olympic Gold Medalist being informed of the news in April 2020.
While speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, Angle knew that he would be at risk of being cut due to his high salary and admitted that he was not enjoying the backstage role:
“Yes, [Mark Carano] called me. ‘Hey, we’re going to let you go.’ Actually, I wasn’t that into my job. I was a producer. I was killing time. I knew that if they were going to do cuts, I would be the first one let go because they were paying me a lot of money, more money than other producers. I knew that if they were going to do cuts and they were going to let go of someone, I’d be the first. I didn’t put much into it, I really didn’t. I should have been a lot more passionate about it,”
When guest EC3 noted that Angle did not look like he was having a good time, Angle responded “I’d rather wrestle, but that wasn’t going to happen.”
Kurt Angle Praises Rising Star
Although not able to wrestle, the former World Champion still keeps a close eye on the current product. In a previous episode, Kurt Angle stated his endorsement for Ricochet to become a future top star in WWE. Also recognising the potential of a fellow Olympian, Kurt Angle has given a glowing endorsement to Gable Steveson as another future main eventer.
H/t to Fightful.
