Kurt Angle is no stranger to creating iconic moments throughout his WWE Hall of Fame career, from spraying milk from a truck to having his gold medals thrown off a bridge.
However, according to the Olympic gold medalist himself, he considers his recent appearance on WWE Raw to be the coolest.
On the January 23rd episode of WWE Raw, D-Generation X made their way to the ring as part of celebrating the red brand’s 30th anniversary as it debuted in January of 1993. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, X-Pac, and Road Dogg were all in attendance, while Billy Gunn was absent due to being signed to All Elite Wrestling.
However, fans noticed that one more man was alongside the popular faction: Kurt Angle. Despite never having been part of the group, Angle took part in DX’s signature taunts and catchphrases, looking delighted the whole time.
Speaking on Raw Talk following the show, Angle says that being an honorary member of the WWE Hall of Fame faction was the “coolest thing in the world,” and also spoke highly of getting the chance to serve as special guest referee on the show.
“I had a lot of fun. Being able to hang out with DX, being able an honorary member was the coolest thing in the world. My whole entire career, I’ve been kind of the nerd and the dork. To go out there with those guys was really cool. I had such a blast. Being able to ref the match, it was a lot of fun tonight. The Raw 30th [anniversary show], I’ll remember this forever.” (h/t Fightful)
Kurt Angle Wore A Special Referee Shirt On WWE Raw
As DX were in the ring celebrating Raw’s 30th anniversary, the group were confronted by Imperium members GUNTHER, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci. GUNTHER declared that they were there to stop the shenanigans, and the DX members joked that they were too old to do anything about this. They volunteered Kurt Angle to face the trio, but Angle quickly declined as well.
However, The Street Profits soon appeared, and Seth Rollins also came out to even the numbers. After former General Manager Teddy Long made an appearance to make the tag team match official, D-Generation X pondered about the match being even more spectacular if there were to be a special guest referee.
Angle, who had previously revealed himself to be wearing a DX shirt, revealed yet another shirt underneath: a red, white, and blue striped referee shirt, perfect for the occasion.
