Kurt Angle has heaped praise on Rey Mysterio, calling the former WWE Champion the best high-flyer in the wrestling business.
Mysterio and Angle locked up many times in WWE but none more famous than at WrestleMania 22. Having won the 2006 Royal Rumble Rey received a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Angle was champion at the time with Randy Orton also involved making it a triple threat match. An emotionally charged Mysterio overcame the odds, winning the title on the grandest stage of them all.
Speaking on an episode of The Kurt Angle Show podcast, the Olympic gold medallist shared his thoughts on Mysterio’s in-ring skills.
“Rey [Mysterio] is an exceptional athlete, his high-flying is impressive. Working in the ring with him is a lot of fun, you do a lot of bumping and selling, you’re catching Rey quite a bit. You have to be his post for him when he does his moves. It’s a lot of work but it’s a lot of fun and Rey is just a joy to work with.”
“Rey Mysterio is a high flyer, he’s a luchador. He’s the best luchador in the history of the business. So he’s exceptional at what he does. Wrestling a guy, a regular wrestler, who’s a ground-worker, you’re not going to have any high-flying technique. So Rey is special, and he does it better than anybody else, he’s the absolute best at high-flying.”
Kurt Angle also spoke about the match with Mysterio and Orton at WrestleMania 22. Angle noted that the trio were given a lot less time for their match than they previously thought.
