WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle has discussed Brock Lesnar’s reaction to a notorious rib from Curt Hennig that he says left The Beast Incarnate ready to kill.
Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig is almost as famous for his pranks outside the ring as he is for his perfection inside of it. The former WWF Intercontinental Champion’s ribs have become part of wrestling folklore even though sometimes the recipients did not always see the funny side.
Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show [available early and ad-free at AdFreeShows.com] the Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle discussed the encounter Hennig had with Brock Lesnar on a certain Plane Ride From Hell in 2002:
“I was on the plane when he was ribbing Brock Lesnar. Brock was trying to go sleep, and Curt Hennig just kept throwing alcohol on him, and throwing stuff at him, throwing it at his face! And Brock got so mad. Brock was going to kill him!”
“I mean, five people had to hold Brock back. It was horrible; Curt Hennig kept doing it, though. He was crazy. He was a habitual ribber; that’s all he does, especially if he is not in the ring.”
Following the Plane Ride From Hell, Curt Hennig was released from WWE alongside Scott Hall. The torrid journey was recently covered in-depth on an episode of the documentary series, Dark Side Of The Ring.
Kurt Angle went on to discuss Hennig’s athletic credentials in the ring, noting his surprise that Hennig never captured the top title in WWE or WCW during his otherwise acclaimed career:
“Well, I think he was the greatest athlete of all time in WWE. There is nothing he was bad at. He excelled at every sport. He was so smooth in the ring, one of the best in-ring workers I have ever seen. Very talented, just really athletic. What surprises me is that he never won the world title! That’s very shocking.”
