Kurt Angle Believes This Top Star Should Be John Cena’s Final Opponent

John Cena Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle believes John Cena should end his WWE career in the biggest match possible.

At Money in the Bank on July 6th, John Cena made a surprise appearance and announced that he would be officially retiring from WWE in 2025. While many initially expected that he’d be retiring at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, Cena later clarified that he would wrestle throughout the year with his final bout taking place in December of 2025.

Following the massive announcement, CM Punk made it clear that he wants to wrestle Cena one more time before Cena hangs up his boots. Drew McIntyre also wants to be part of Cena’s retirement tour and is willing to “drive management crazy” in order to make it happen.

Speaking in a recent interview with MuscleManMalcolm, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle gave his thoughts on Cena’s upcoming retirement and named the man he believes should face Cena in his final match. Angle pointed to Roman Reigns, who has a storied history with Cena that led to the two men facing off at No Mercy in 2017.

“Probably Roman Reigns. Knowing where Roman was when he started. I remember a promo where John put him in his place. I think they would have a good storyline coming up if they decided to have the last match Cena vs. Roman.”

Kurt Angle Wants Cena To Fight For The WWE Championship

Continuing, Angle said that Cena’s final match should be for the WWE Championship, giving the star the opportunity to break Ric Flair’s record and capture a world title for the 17th time.

“For John Cena’s credit, it should be for the World Title. He’s won 16 World Titles in WWE, no one have done that before. Ric Flair won 16, but he did with NWA, WCW, and WWE. John Cena has won 16 titles in WWE. No one has ever done that. I think he deserves a title shot.”
