Kurt Angle retired from in-ring competition in 2019, but continues to be part of the wrestling community. In the wrestling business, Angle achieved worldwide fame for WWE and TNA.
He is also a gold medalist in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Olympics, despite competing with a broken neck. He is now set for a major new gig along with his former colleagues and Hall of Famers, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.
WWE and TNA Hall of Famer Kurt Angle to Serve as Commentator, Analyst, and Partner for Real American Freestyle
Angle is going to play a significant role in Hogan and Bischoff’s Real American Freestyle venture — the new, unscripted freestyle wrestling organization, as announced on July 17, 2025.
He will serve as a live event commentator, analyst, and partner. Angle will join with Chael Sonnen and Bubba Jenkins for RAF01 on August 30 in Cleveland, Ohio, at the Wolstein Center.
Kurt Angle is a living legend. He’s achieved every accomplishment he could in wrestling, so it makes sense that he’s partnering with Real American Freestyle as we actively change the name of the game across the sport. Kurt will provide fire, infamy, and unparalleled experience to the commentary and analysis of our live events. We couldn’t be more excited to have him on the Real American team,” stated Hulk Hogan, RAF’s Commissioner.
There is history between these two heavyweight performers, as The Immortal One and Angle have wrestled in WWE. They were also together during their tenure in TNA. Angle opened up about his connection to Real American Freestyle, not only through his relationship with Hogan and Bischoff, but also for what the company represents.
I grew up freestyle wrestling, and achieved the highest level of success in the sport. I couldn’t be prouder to support athletes at all levels of their careers and partner with Real American Freestyle to make it happen. Chael and Bubba will bring a unique aspect to their analysis given their own backgrounds in combat sports, and I’m excited to join them for RAF01 to bring freestyle wrestling to audiences around the world,” Angle said.
Hogan was last seen in WWE earlier this year, during Monday Night RAW’s Netflix debut episode.
Evidently, he was not as popular among the masses in Los Angeles as he once was. As for Angle, he sporadically makes appearances for the Stamford-based promotion. How this new role affects his relationship with WWE bears watching.
