WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has revealed that AEW have offered him multiple contracts to join the company.
Speaking back in July, Angle admitted that both AEW and IMPACT had offered him the chance to return to the ring. The former World Champion hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
During a new appearance on The Wrestling Inc. Daily, Angle offered more details about his dealings with AEW and the company’s President Tony Khan. Angle revealed that AEW had actually offered him multiple contracts, although he has turned them down on each occasion.
“Yes, they offered me a couple of different contracts,”
“I turned it down for personal reasons, but Tony Khan’s been really nice to me, very generous, and I really appreciate his interest in having me there. But at this particular time, I can’t do it.”
“The first offer, they wanted me to have many matches,” Angle said. “The next offer, I think, was three matches, and then one was just an on-camera personality, no wrestling.”
Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, The Kurt Angle Show, the former WWE Champion gave an insight into his current physical condition. Angle described how he “didn’t care” about his neck injuries during his career, but admits he’s now paying a heavy price.
“I didn’t [care about my neck] even in WWE, I broke my neck four more times,” Angle said. “All I cared about was getting back into the mix. I’m paying for it now, I’m 52 years old and I’m in a lot of pain man. My knees, my back, my shoulders, my neck. I’m paying the full price for everything I did. I don’t regret what I did, the Olympics and with the broken neck and wrestling with a broken neck in the WWE and going to TNA and everything like that. You look back and second guess, maybe I went a little too hard. Think about it, I wrestled pro and amateur for 43 years, that’s a lot of time, a lot of years.”
AEW have signed a number of former WWE Superstars in recent months with the additions of Andrade El Idolo, Malakai Black and CM Punk.
According to a recent report, the trio could soon be joined by Bryan Danielson, aka Daniel Bryan. While there has been no official confirmation that Bryan has signed with the company, news broke on July 21st that the deal was done.
It has since been reported that Bryan could be arriving in AEW in the very near future.
