Kota Ibushi Undergoing Surgery After Concerning Mid-Match Injury

Kota Ibushi has announced he will undergo surgery after suffering an ankle injury during a Pro Wrestling NOAH event.

Earlier this week, Kota Ibushi made his return to Pro Wrestling NOAH for the first time in over 12 years, headlining the promotion’s The New Year 2024 event against Naomichi Marufuji. Unfortunately, however, the occasional AEW star suffered an injury to his ankle early on which severely hampered the rest of their match.

Ibushi is reported to have walked to the backstage area under his own power afterwards but was unable to provide any backstage comments due to the amount of pain he was in. Eventually, an ambulance was called and he was transported to a Tokyo hospital.

Yesterday, Ibushi commented on his concerning performance for the first time since the bout. In a post to X, he issued an apology for how the match turned out whilst claiming that he had been “scammed” by a medical facility known as C5 Clinic.

Kota Ibushi Announced He Will Be Undergoing Surgery

Across a series of posts made to X earlier today (translated via Google Translate), Kota Ibushi revealed that he will be undergoing ankle surgery to deal with his ongoing injury and apologised to fans once again.

“Sorry for the late contact. I’m sure NOAH will give you more details, but I would like to inform you that the inside of my left ankle was quite a mess, so I decided to have surgery on the right ligament. I think there will be a release soon. I’m really, really sorry.”

“I came here with the goal of being able to do it for 20 years, and I think it’s about time for me to be active. There are still a lot of things left on my contract, but I want to complete them! I try not to talk too darkly or think about the future, but I have to take care of my mother and other things, so I’ll talk about it when the time comes! Don’t miss one match at a time.”

Kota Ibushi made a surprise return to the ring in July 2024, taking part in matches in both GLEAT and DDT.
