Following a very public war of words between NJPW and Kota Ibushi, the Japanese company has announced that Ibushi will have his salary cut.
NJPW President Takami Ohbari and Takaaki Kidani of the wrestling promotion’s parent company Bushiroad have participated in a press conference to discuss the ongoing disturbing situation regarding former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Kota Ibushi.
Ibushi had made conversations public between himself and an NJPW official where it appeared the Golden Star had been offered his release from NJPW. Kota Ibushi later went public with the tragic news that his mother had attempted suicide as a result of his public fallout with the wrestling company.
Now at a press conference, Takami Ohbari has sought to clean up the situation and confirmed that Ibushi will remain a part of the NJPW roster. NJPW has released a full translated transcript of both Ohbari and Kidani’s remarks on their website.
Answering questions at the press conference, Ohbari confirmed that Kota Ibushi will receive a salary reduction as a result of his actions:
“Regarding Kota Ibushi, especially considering the circumstances surrounding everything that happened, there was never any consideration given to termination. But given the contract breach involved in the unsanctioned appearance as well as publishing company secrets, that is something that would likely result in a salary reduction.”
The official in question who was communicating with Ibushi will also be punished with Kidani suggesting that they will be transferred to a different position.
Ohbari also confirmed that Kota Ibushi is still not one hundred percent following a shoulder injury and there is still no timetable for his return to the ring.
