According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Major League Wrestling star Konnan has been hospitalised with a serious kidney issue.
Konnan has had a long history with kidney problems dating all the way back to 2007 when the former Filthy Animal member underwent kidney transplant from which he experienced complications when the star claimed that the painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs actually ruined his kidney instead of aiding its recovery.
Now, on the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer noted that the star has been hospitalised and the situation at present is thought to be serious:
“I don’t know all the details but I know he’s hospitalised and it’s a kidney issue. He had a kidney transplant in 2007 and it’s pretty serious. There’s probably more to the story but I don’t have all of the details confirmed, but it doesn’t sound particularly good to me as far as the whole situation. But I know it’s fairly serious so hopefully he’s doing well and hopefully he gets out of the hospital as soon as possible. It’s very concerning, put it that way.”
Though Konnan has stepped away from active competition in recent years, the star is still a constant presence on MLW television, has appeared in an angle with the Inner Circle on AEW television in November 2020 and served on the creative board and as booker of AAA.
The star will be best known to American audiences for his time in World Championship Wrestling where he reigned as WCW World Tag Team Champion, WCW United States Champion and WCW World Television Champion.
Prior to his entry into the Atlanta group, Konnan briefly wrestled for WWF as The Latin Fury and Relampagago and was meant to portray the Max Moon character before a backstage disagreement saw him leave the company and the gimmick pass to Paul Diamond.
Inside the Ropes wishes Konnan a speedy recovery.
