Kofi Kingston has responded to comments about a potential New Day v Edge and Christian match at WrestleMania.
Kingston was responding to a fan on Twitter when he said he had been hopeful of such a match taking place. However, Edge’s Rumble victory and Christian’s other career plans seem to have scuppered such a bout from taking place.
The former WWE Champion said:
“Trust us, we (me and woods) had a plan, then @EdgeRatedR had to go and win the Rumble, and Christian… well, you know, lol”
Edge entered the 2021 men’s Royal Rumble match at number one and lasted over 58 minutes to win the match and with it, a title shot at WrestleMania. The WWE Hall of Famer has challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. Reigns however defends that title against Daniel Bryan at Fastlane on March 21st. The winner of that contest will be likely to face Edge in the main event at the ‘show of shows.’
Christian, now going by the name Christian Cage, shocked the world at AEW Revolution when he made his debut for All Elite Wrestling. Cage was Paul Wight’s promised ‘hall of fame worthy’ surprise at the event. Cage would sign his AEW contract in the ring. Showing off his new t-shirt and entrance video, Cage has promised to ‘Out. Work. Everyone.’ in the company.
There has been no word about what Kingston or New Day partner Xavier Woods will be doing at WrestleMania 37. In the past, the pair along with Big E have competed in WWE Tag Team Title matches with the trio even hosting the event in 2017.
Kofi Kingston would have his own WrestleMania moment two years later at the event. Kofi would defeat Daniel Bryan to begin his only reign as WWE Champion.
